Slow Rhythm 🍂
Slow living is a mindset whereby you curate a more meaningful and conscious lifestyle that’s in line with what you value most in life.
Slowing down is about living better, rather than faster, by intentionally placing what’s important to you at the heart of your lifestyle, living mindfully in self-awareness and making conscious, considered decisions for the benefit of your own well-being, and that of the environment.
Slow living is about dedicating the right amount of time to the things that matter most to us.
Simplify your lifestyle
Slow living and simple living aren’t solutions that can magically remove all difficult tasks or commitments in life. However, a slower lifestyle embraces being more selective to what social plans you say yes to and reminds us to be realistic when setting ourselves tasks to complete. It’s important to not mistake busyness with productivity – we all need time to recharge. In addition, taking on a slower mindset encourages you to assign the right amount of time to each task, rather than rushing. It’s about doing less, but doing the things that matter, better.
Slow living shakes off the negative connotations of the word ‘slow’. It’s not about being lazy or unproductive, rather slow living means prioritising and going easy on yourself when it matters. None of us have mastered perfectly juggling work, friends, family, hobbies and home – and it’s ok to admit we haven’t always got it figured out.
Moments of everyday deceleration are small pauses in your day which encourage you to switch off autopilot and become more mindful. These pauses help you find perspective and engage your soothing system. Our soothing system is one our emotional regulation systems. It’s essential for alleviating stress and promoting contentment, rest and connection.
Mindfulness, downtime, minimalism, creativity and time spent reconnecting with nature and the seasons are all great examples of moments of everyday deceleration. A common misconception of mindfulness is that you need to carve out lots of extra time to practise. Yet, mindfulness can be as simple as re-framing mundane activities that you do every day, such as making a cup of tea or hanging out the washing.
Find pleasure & joy in the little everyday things such as:
🍂Cooking or baking
🍂Going for a walk in nature
🍂Reading
🍂Taking a bath
🍂Arranging cut or dried flowers in your home
🍂Doing something creative with your hands
🍂Mindful breathing or meditation
🍂Journaling
I really love this time of the year; energetically, the Autumn Equinox is a time of balance and pause, a transitional moment between the bright half of the year and the dark half of the year.
It’s time to go inside and listen to your spiritual guides. It is a time of balance and pause, a transitional moment between the bright half of the year and the dark half of the year.
The spiritual energies of the spring and summer season are very different from fall and winter. As we enter what could be considered Moon Season, we begin to spend more time in darkness and see the moon in the sky for longer periods of time. This is a shift between the extroverted spring/summer period, which is all about play, pleasure, and connection, and the introverted fall/winter, which is a time for rest, intimate connection, solitude, and reflection.
In addition to gratitude, the Autumn Equinox is an appropriate time to consider and invite balance into your life. The idea of balance may need to be redefined as we move from the bright to the darker half of the year; what kept you balanced in the heat of summer may not work the same way on cooler days. Balance is a constantly shifting equilibrium, and our daily routines and rituals may need to shift with the transition to a new season.
During this time, you may notice yourself naturally turning your attention from the outside world and other people to yourself, your body, your spirit, and your heart. Take a moment to slow down and listen inwardly. Is there something your body is asking you for? Is there a project you have been wanting to begin that needs some deep focus? Is your spirit calling for quieter reflection, or to begin a new commitment?
This is the time of year to go within and empty out space, composting our old ideas and using the energy they hold to make new and fertile soil for new creativity and matured visions.
As we become silent and rest, we are allowing space for our greater vision to emerge.
Welcome the shift to a new type of energy. Happy Autumn Equinox!
