Underneath your Skin
What does your skin hide?
The SKIN is the largest organ of the body. The skin protects us from microbes and the external elements, helps to regulate body temperature, it's the responsible for the sensations of touch, heat, & cold. This is a very short description of the skin, the physical aspect of the human anatomy but;
What about the psychological aspect? &
What about the close link between our skin & emotions?
This is what I researched and studied during these 10 years being a Holistic Massage Therapist. 99% of my clients come to my clinic with a physical pain, some of these are chronic pain and most of those are related to a trapped emotion or trauma.
For a long period of my life after a very traumatic experience I had an intense feeling of fear in moving forward, fear to the unknown. I knew by then that kidneys were the organs where we store fear so for a period of time I was so focused on my kidneys, practising exercises to expand them, eating specific foods to revitalise them & sending lots of love thru meditations and healing sounds. It was such an amazing experience seeing how much power we hold onto us.
What a wonderful revelation! Keeping your organs healthy and free of these negative emotions & creating harmony between yin-yan, you are able to create a beautiful balanced universe within you! Isn't truly beautiful?
When we suffer a trauma or painful experience our skin absorbs that feeling and memorise it thus if we live another similar experience our brain and body recognised it and reacts to it. The skin not only protects us from microbes and external factors but protects us from those feelings and traumas penetrate into our bodies and therefore might affect the good functioning of our organs.
So addressing and resolving emotional traumas can also help restore harmony to the body and alleviate some of the aches and pains we accumulate.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) emotions are considered the major cause of internal disease. When there is prolonged stress or an over-abundance of joy, anger, grief or fright, serious injury can happen to our internal organs, making it clear that balancing our emotions is one of the keys to optimum health. Stress is a big factor, 75% of diseases are caused by stress in our modern lives, see graphic below the unhealthy chain of stress traveling thru our organs:

It really fascinates me how we can decode our physical pains by deeply listening what our body is trying to tell us, paying attention to our skin, hair, nails, specific pain points on our bodies.
Personally and working with alternative therapies for a decade I'm so convinced that our bodies need natural organic fresh foods, regular exercise, cultivate a healthy mind and have dedication every single day in little acts of love and kindness towards ourselves & the world.
Love your skin, your heart, your brain, your lungs, your spleen, your liver, your kidneys, your sexual organs...Love your core, your essence, LOVE your inner UNIVERSE! 💫
